Anyone who knows me will agree, I don’t like to sit still! This has always been true and I don’t plan on that changing any time soon.
Earlier this year, when I was planning my race calendar, I purposely didn’t schedule a lot for myself after the end of June. I wasn’t sure how my body was going to feel after my 8 race adventure and knew that I was going to need some recovery time.
Well, recovery is over. I am back to half marathon training and in true Crazy Hamster fashion, I’m adding another race to the calendar!
Thanks to BibRave, I will be heading to Tulsa in November for the Route 66 Marathon, the Crazy Hamster is … hold on… let me rephrase that…. Route 66 Half Marathon, the Crazy Hamster is heading your way!
This race has been on my bucket list for several years, but I figured it would be a few years before I was able to get there. Thanks to BibRave and the aligning of a few other stars, it’s happening this year! Best part, not only am I running the half marathon, I have opted to register for the Half Marathon Double. So aside from my 13.1 miles on Sunday, I’ll be adding an extra 3.1 miles on Saturday with the 5k!
Why Williams Route 66?
There is the usual: Confetti Cannon’s at the start line, awesome spectator support along the course, Killer swag (including a hooded vest for half marathoners, or a hooded sweatshirt for marathoners), some of the best race medals in the country and a second to none finish line party.
But for me, it’s more.
It’s about pushing myself to do things I never thought possible. This race will be half marathon #17 for the year for me. By far, the most half marathons I ever would have thought I could have finished in 1 year.
But it’s about even bigger goals.
I am on a quest to run a half marathon in all 50 states (plus Washington DC). This race will be state number 22 (46th half marathon overall) so I’m almost halfway to that 50 state goal!
I have made so many amazing friends along this journey and I am also excited that many of the awesome runners that I have met through Half Fanatics and the 50 State Half Marathon Club will be at this race also! With that many friends running the race, it will almost be like running at home – just with new scenery! Oh yeah, one of the friends I met earlier this year is finishing is 50 State Marathon quest at Route 66 this year, so it will be awesome to help him celebrate his finish! Congrats on your awesome adventure Ray!
This race is also one of the featured races in the 2018 Half Fanatics race series! Just for being a club members and running this race, you get an extra medal!! So if you are a member of the Half Fanatics or Marathon Maniacs, come join the party!!! I know there are several hundred of us that are already planning on being there, so why not join the fun?!?!?
I also have several Skirt Sports Ambassadors that I will be meeting there, so there will be no shortage of shenanigans and adventures over the weekend!
