The worlds best weight loss plan!

Are you looking for THE answer?  That ONE diet plan that will help you lose that weight once and for all.  Guaranteed?

No matter how much you look, you won’t find one.  No one program works for everyone and you need to find what works for you on so many different levels.

How many times have you seen a Facebook post from a friend about their amazing weight loss and then they encourage you to message them to find out out they did it?  Chances are, they are promoting some specific weight loss program or products.  I’ve been there, I’ve even tried some of those programs. Some work, some don’t. This is part of where finding what works for you is important.

Don’t get me wrong, some of these programs are amazing and can work, but do yourself a solid favor and take the time to do your own research!

Things to consider:

*Overall Cost: Does the cost of what they are selling make sense from a cost perspective? Is buying the product going to put a strain on your household budget?  Is the product price point reasonable for what is being offered? A shake should not cost more than $5 per serving. If you really stop and think about it, there are plenty of healthy, fulfilling whole foods shakes that you can make for less that $5/serving. How much are you paying for the extra supplements?  Are you paying more for the same nutrients, etc that you can find in a balanced nutritious meal plan?  These are all things to consider when looking at different programs and the cost needs to work with your budget!

*Promised results: If they are promising guaranteed results, keep looking elsewhere. There is no magic shake, pill, or supplement… there isn’t even a magic eating plan. Trust me, if there was, I probably would have already found it!

*Case Studies: Put on your detective hat and do your own research… No study is perfect, but make sure you have ALL the details. Be sure to see what you can find on the following: size, group(s) studied (animal or human), overstating findings, who funded the study, hidden agendas, did they admit flaws and alternative theories to the findings.  I have stumbled across many studies that they hand picked results to benefit their product and left out results that contradicted.

*Sustainability: Can you do the program FOREVER? Whether it be the cost or style of plan, you need be be able to maintain it. If no, then it will not work long term and the cycle of feeling like a failure, shame and guilt will continue.

*Meeting your personal needs: If you struggle with emotional eating I am pretty confident that drinking shake every morning is not going to help you… neither will a specific diet plan. You have to work on the core triggers, create sustained habit changes, find and work on alternative options to cope with your struggles.  You need to look beyond the food itself to see what is triggering your actions.

* Is this an all or nothing program, meaning you will lose 20lbs quickly, soon feel deprived, have an off day and throw in the towel to only feel like a failure with shame and guilt?

What is the best answer?

The first thing is to accept that there is no prefect program.  There is no magic pill.  In reality, there is no eating plan that will align with your life perfectly and forever – you will need to make adjustments from time to time.  Yes, you read that right.  No plan is going to work forever.  Just because a program stops working for you, does not mean that you failed.  You need to continue to make adjustments as you body adjusts.  Any failure you feel may not be 100% because of you not working hard enough.  It may be because you just haven’t found what works for you and helps you to focus on your weaknesses. Yes, focusing on weaknesses sucks, but it is important to look at so that you can learn and grow… and continue to move forward.

My best advice (other than working with a professional health coach) is to be ok with failing often.  when this happens, take the time to learn from it.  Look at finding balance, moderation and portion control.  Think about what and how inspires you, create an environment for success both physically, socially and emotionally. Find your tribe.  Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try something different.  Getting comfortable with being uncomfortable.  Don’t ignore your triggers (stress, sadness, reward eating, etc…), try new things to combat those triggers.  Stay positive and re-prioritize your life.

Whatever you do, don’t give up! You will find that balance that works for you.  It doesn’t matter what it looks like to someone else.  As long as it works for you, that is what matters!  If you want to look into finding what will work for you but don’t know where to start, let me know!  I’d love to sit down with your for an hour and explore your ideas, options and goals!
