When I started running, I NEVER left the house without my headphones.  I NEEDED music on my run. Whether it was a training run or a race, I had to have my headphones. It was what helped me focus.  It was what kept me going, especially when the miles got tough.  It started with cheap ear buds and I slowly graduated to fancier earbuds and eventually Bluetooth.  I loved my music and was always adding to my play lists.

Then the Dick Lytie Classic Half Marathon March 2015.  As we were waiting for the start of the race, I realized my BT headset had not charged the night before.  I went into a mini panic!  We were seconds from the start of the race and I had no music.  But not only did I not have any music, I also had to little voice in my ear telling me pace at each mile I don’t remember what app I was using at the time, but that voice in my ear was motivation and the push  I needed at each mile.  Now I had to run naked.  No music, no voice in my ear, nothing.  Just me and the road.  I was determined to do what I could so I hit the road.  At some points it was a struggle and I actually pulled my phone out of my jacket pocket just to check my pace because I didn’t have a clue how I was doing.  13.1 miles later, I finished within 2 minutes of PR at the time.  I realized I didn’t NEED music.

I spent the last 3 years running without music.  During this time, I ended up making some great friends while running, pushed through hundreds of miles, challenged myself and so much more.   As I started to increase my mileage more and more, I found myself missing having that music on my run. But I also didn’t want to disconnect myself from the excitement of race day and the camaraderie in the running community that I have grown to love.

Enter AfterShokz Trekz Air!

When I found out that I had the opportunity to try headphones that would allow me to have my music, plus still allow me to hear what was going on around me… plus I didn’t have to deal with all those annoying chords?  Count me in!

The Trekz Air use bone conduction technology to give you the ability to listen to your music, podcasts, audio books and even phone calls, without having anything in your ears!

What is bone  conduction technology you ask?

In a nutshell… They send mini vibrations through your cheekbones, directly to your inner ear, leaving your ear canals open!  Meaning you can still hear what’s going on around you, listen for traffic or still be part of conversations with those around you, while still listening to whatever you have on your playlist!

After I got them charged up, Syncing with my phone took about 30 seconds (or less) and I was ready to go!

The first time I used them, it did take some time to get used to them.  It was kinda weird having something sitting in front of my ears, but once I get going, I realized they were so lightweight that I almost forgot I was wearing them!I LOVE the fact that there are no chords or wires to deal with!  Trekz Air sport a wireless wraparound titanium band that loops behind the neck and hooks over the ears. No cords, no worries.

There are only 3 buttons on these and scrolling through your playlist is as easy as touching a button.  There is also a built in microphone so you can take a phone call on the go without having to dig your phone out of your pocket!

Couldn’t be any easier!!  Power on, pair, tuck your device in your pocket, and be on your way. Trekz Air offers play/pause/skip, voice dial and volume adjustment at the touch of a button for control while you are on the go.

With a 6 hour battery life, I can get through all my activities without worry about losing power!

So, the Crazy Hamster is back to listening to music and podcasts on the run, but don’t worry, if you see me out on the trails or the race course, say hi!  My Trekz Air will let me hear you!!
